LANSING, Mich. – The Crusaders banded together after losing Matt McGivern, Matt Hunter and Brett Cashner, winning 71-66 against Lincoln Christian on Friday evening.
The Crusaders’ fire and intensity was displayed by a defensive mindset as guard Andrew McKinney (St. Charles, Iowa) held Lincoln’s top player to 29% from the field.
McKinney had help with guard Tanner Moses (Lodi, Wis.) beside him, as Moses’ organization helped involve multiple players.
One of those, freshman forward Matt Rueb (Chesapeake, Va.), finished with 14 points on 5-9 shooting.
Senior forward Joel Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.) led the team with 31 points, but it was the sound play and execution that gave coach Salscheider encouragement in his team’s first win of the season,
“I liked our discipline and fire on defense and offense. We were serious about executing the right game plan from the start and communication was a key to the win. We’re developing character right now and improving every game as guys take more calculated risks on defense and open up on offense.”
Maranatha concludes the Tip-Off with a match against Great Lakes Christian College on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. EST.
